THE Primary Schools of the Garnock Valley recently enjoyed a basketball tournament organised by Ayrshire’s top team.

The Ayrshire Tornadoes is the top basketball club in Ayrshire and their home court is based in a Dalry Primary where they play during the basketball season.

One of the programmes the club runs is called the Club Champion which is all about developing basketball in North Ayrshire.

The programme is now in its third year and over the course of the year Coach Jordan Thomson had delivered basketball sessions to primary and secondary pupils across North Ayrshire.

The culmination of all his efforts have been seen in the fantastic tournament that was held in Garnock Community Campus in which seve n of the primary schools in the Garnock Valley attended.

This tournament was aimed at P5 children to get them involved in basketball. Each school had two teams split into two leagues .

On the day there were over 100 kids playing in competitive games followed by school shoot out.

The successful teams on the day were: Group A: Winners - St Bridget’ s Primary, Runners up - Gateside Primary Group B: Winners - St Palladius Primary, Runners up - St Bridget’ s Primary The two winners will be invited to the Champion of Champions tournament in May where all the winners from tournaments this season together for one big final day of basketball.

Coach Thomson said: “Days lik e this are why I coach. It’s great giving kids in Ayrshire the chance to play basketball, also giving them a pathway to join the club. Great to see so many kids and teachers enjoying tournament, hopefully see a few of these kids becoming Tornadoes stars in the future!

“Big thanks to everyone on the day wh o made it a success. Thanks to North Ayrshire Council, KA Leisure and Active Schools for their support.”
