Volunteers aged two to 80 turned up to the Beith and District Annual Litter Pick.

Around 80 people attended including community council members, local Girl Guides, elected members, community police, elders of the Mormon Church, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers from Cumnock and members of the public.

The annual event was followed by an evening reception with Barrmill Village and Canoe Club in Beith Community Centre. Entertainment was provided by West Kilbride Village Folk Group.

Norrie Brown, coordinator at Beith Orr Park Neighbourhood Watch, described the event as “a tiring but very productive weekend”.

He said: “We must never say our community does not rally round. We have had fantastic help and cooperation in all we do for the town, both from local businesses and from those outside Sincere thanks all.

“None of us should need to do any of this and something needs to be done to stop the litter in the first place. We would ask everyone to take pride in their town.”
