A Garnock Valley man has been presented with the Volunteer/Citizen of the Year Award by the local community council.

Ian Shaw was given the accolade at Kilbirnie and Glengarnock Community Council’s Volunteer/Citizen of the Year Award Night 2018 in Bridgend Community Centre last weekend.

Ian has carried out various voluntary roles throughout the community, such as instigating and managing Garnock Valley Men’s Shed and working with Project Kilbirnie.

He was presented with the Helen Graham Rose Bowl and an engraved glass plaque.

Ian was extremely humble when talking about his win and joked that it must have been rigged.

He told the Herald: “I was thrilled but embarrassed of course.

“I had asked the association that presented the award not to include me in it as there were others that were more deserving.

“It was friends I work with who all voted – they rigged it so I won it!”
