Gateside Primary has been officially recognised for excellence in digital teaching and learning after being awarded national Digital School status.

The Beith school was among 38 accredited at a ceremony in Tulliallan Primary in Fife.

The event was attended by Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Shirley-Anne Somerville, along with pupils, teachers and programme partners.

Gateside joins 43 primary schools awarded Digital School accreditation in 2017.

Fiona Dunlop, head teacher at Gateside Primary, said: “I am so proud of the young people and staff and the steps they have taken to develop digital technologies in Gateside.

“Through the use of technology our school is enthused and fully engaged in all aspects of learning.

“Motivation, innovation and creation is high on our agenda and digital technology has a major role in helping us achieve this goal.”

Gateside Primary demonstrated, among other things, the presence of a whole school digital strategy, evidence of how digital technology is being used to improve learning, and a commitment to ongoing professional learning for teachers.

Launched in 2016, the Digital Schools Award programme was developed to support, encourage and recognise schools in their efforts to integrate digital technology across the curriculum in order to both improve the learning experience for pupils of all abilities and provide students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital economy and society.
