'WE HOPE WE CAN HELP SAVE LIVES OF OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE'
SENIOR pupils from Garnock Academy underwent medical screening at the Valley Arc in Glengarnock recently thanks to a Government-funded Cardiac Assessment in Young Athletes (CAYA) team based at Hampden Park.
The screening was organised by Beith couple Ian and Irene Broughton, whose daughter Steffani (17) died suddenly and unexpectedly in September 2007.
Mr Broughton said: "Kety Stewart of CAYA and myself recently did a short presentation to 5th and 6th year pupils at Garnock Academy about cardiac screening. This was to give them information to allow them to make a choice about being screened, what is involved in the process and to answer any questions."
