A BEITH woman has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a pensioner last year after leaving her car in an unsafe way.

Shirley Anne Denovan, 59, of Glebelands Way, denied the charge of driving a car without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for others using the road.

It was claimed she failed to park her car, which was on a hill, properly and whilst doing so failed to apply the handbrake properly, failed to engage the car in gear and failed to angle the wheels into the kerb before leaving the car.

This caused the car to roll down a hill and collided with Thomas Hamilton, who was a pedestrian, causing him to sustain fatal injuries resulting in his death.

Denovan will face trial on the charge in September this year at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.
