FIREFIGHTERS had to attend at a bungalow in Dalry after a fire broke out in the bedroom of the house.

On the morning of Sunday, August 17, the Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire in the Swindridgemuir area of Dalry.

Operational fire crews from Dalry and Kilwinning utilised four breathing apparatus sets and high pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

The fire-fighters then ventilated the premises and undertook aggressive cutting away of building materials within the dwelling to ensure there was no sign of further fire spread throughout the property.

One elderly man who was in the property at the time of the incident was given oxygen therapy treatment by fire crew members then passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service for assessment.

He did not require to attend hospital as a result.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “After carrying out a rapid attack on the fire and successfully extinguishing it, our crews ventilated the property and simultaneously gave first aid to the elderly male who was within the dwelling.” As is standard practice after domestic incidents we initiated a post domestic incident response which involves approaching properties within the immediate area to offer home fire safety visits and provision and fitting of smoke detectors. In this case residents in neighbouring properties were happy to take up the offer of our free service which gives them the added security of early warning from fire should the worst happen within their home.

“I cannot stress how critical it is to have fully operational smoke detection within your home. If you would like to arrange a free home fire safety visit contact 0800 0731 999 or visit www.firescotland.gov.uk.”
