THERE’S a new face in town in Kilbirnie.

Lieutenant Wendy Leisk has been appointed as the new minister in charge of the Salvation Army Church.

Wendy’s appointment follows on from the church’s facelift which gave it a more welcoming facade and refurbishment of the main worship hall as well as providing a lift and new toilets.

Wendy, 50, is originally from Caithness and entered training at Aberdeen Citadel after a career in adminstration.

She has two children and two grandchildren.

Wendy aims to raise the profile of the church in the area and have the hall doors open for more community activities – helping those who are lonely or in need.

Wendy says: “I am really excited to be here in Kilbirnie.

“The Salvation Army is a church and charity dedicated to caring for people who are vulnerable or in need in every community and we fully intend to offer that to this community.

“Come and see us and you will receive a warm and friendly welcome at our church.

“We are there when you need us, offering compassionate support and practical help.” She added: “I want people to know our doors are open and we offer practical help as well as a being a church.” The Corps community programme is as follows: Mondays: 12pm - Two course lunch in the rear hall (enter via Walkers Brae). 1.15pm - The Cameo Club – come and meet each other – in the new annexe.
