IT’S all go in the Garnock Valley when it comes to rugby with two new apprentices taking up roles to help develop the sport in local schools.

Alasdair McLean and Lewis McGeachy recently took up their roles and will be helping Development Officer Gavin Blackburn to increase participation in the sport across the region.

The two lads are former pupils at Garnock Academy and they will help to run the coaching sessions within the local primary schools in curriculum time and at after school and lunch clubs, all of which are proving very popular.

Gavin said: “We have 20 coaches at Mini and Midi Level with four new coaches at Mini and Midi Level coming on board this season.

“We will be putting out a micros squad which is booming, P4/5, P6/P7 squads and separate S1 and S2 teams along with an U16 squad.

“Last week S1, S2 and U16 all  played fixtures with U16s at Ardrossan in Ayrshire Cup and S1 and S2s at North/East Ayrshire 10s.

“We as a club also have Keir Walker who has just been named in the Glasgow U16 squad.”
