BEITH branch of Ayrshire Cancer Support has received a massive donation of £12,500 in memory of local woman Shona Davies.

Shona passed away in 2013 leaving two daughters Nicola, 30, and Arlene, 28.

On what would have been Shona’s 50th birthday, Arlene and her aunt Allison Kerr – Shona’s sister-in-law – set off on the West Highland Way long distance footpath to raise money for the Beith branch of Ayrshire Cancer Support, who helped transport her for treatment in Glasgow.

Allison said: “Our motivation and inspiration came from one of the most selfless and bravest ladies we know.” Beith’s Ayrshire Cancer Support volunteer Bill Haining said: “We are delighted with the donation.

"It’s the most Beith Cancer Support has ever received in a single donation and in fact the most that Ayrshire Cancer Support has ever received.” Allison and Arlene would like to thank everyone who contributed including: Robertson Trust, Eglington Inn, Billy’s of Beith, William Hill, Lloyds TSB Fraud Dept, Glasgow, and Bill and Moira for their dedication and support.

Allison and Arlene’s next venture is to walk the West Island Way – a 40 kilometre walk around Bute.
