The second phase of the Ayrshire Flood Risk Consultation started on Monday and runs until Tuesday, June 2.

This will give the public a chance to have their say on a variety of measures being put forward to manage flooding.

The process is happening across Scotland in a bid to create a more joined-up approach.

The Council is working closely with Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Scottish Water and other local authorities to produce new national strategies and local plans.

To facilitate these plans Scotland has been separated into 14 Local Plan Districts, which are based on river catchments.

North Ayrshire Council is the Lead local authority for the Ayrshire Local Plan District and for each area a Flood Risk Management Strategy will be published by SEPA in December 2015. A Local Flood Risk Management Plan will then be published by each Lead local authority in June 2016.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Place, said: “I would urge people to get involved and have their say in what is a hugely important issue for a number of communities across North Ayrshire.” The Council is planning a number of drop-in sessions at Saltcoats Library on Friday, April 24 and Kilbirnie Library on Thursday, April 30 from 3pm to 6pm.

There will also be a session in Arran on Friday, 1 May from 1pm until 4pm.
