GARNOCK Academy has received glowing praise from Education Scotland after a recent inspection.

HMI inspectors commended the pupils who are ‘proud of their school, respectful and motivated to learn’.  They also recognised the leadership of head teacher Alan Dick in his first year at the school.

The school’s high-quality pastoral care was also highlighted by inspectors as was the commitment of all staff to raising attainment.

In all performance indicators, Garnock Academy was marked as ‘very good’ or ‘good’ in a report that has pleased everyone at the school.

Head teacher, Alan Dick said: “I am delighted that the school has been given the recognition it deserves by Education Scotland.

“Garnock Academy is a fabulous school with dedicated staff and pupils.

“Everyone is extremely proud of our achievements and the report reflects the huge amount of work that staff and pupils commit to on a daily basis.” “Along with the extended leadership team, our staff and pupils, I would like to thank our parents and all our community partners for their support throughout the inspection process.” The report highlights the work Mr Dick, along with his Senior Leadership Team, have done in establishing a clear vision for improving the school and how they have gained the respect of staff, pupils and parents.

Inspectors were also impressed with the way pupils were engaged in the learning process both within and outwith school.

They noted how this had helped attainment across the school improve and how that the number of pupils leaving school and moving into ‘positive destinations’ was continuing to rise.

The Pupil Leadership team – comprising of Scott Watson (head boy), Hannah Main (head girl), Jamie Simpson (depute head boy) and Kirsty Smith (depute head girl) – have played their part over the last 12 months.

And in a statement, they said: “We feel extremely proud to be part of such a successful school.

“Over our six years, the school has provided us with fantastic opportunities and it is great to see the school given the recognition it deserves.” Councillor John Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Attainment and Achievement, said: “This is a very good report and the head teacher, his staff and all the pupils deserve enormous credit.

“It is great to hear that the pupils have pride in their school. I’m sure the school will continue to go from strength to strength.”
