A DALRY teenager will be sentenced next month after he admitted stealing over £4,000 worth of booze from a supermarket in the town.

Craig Grant, 17, of Kirkland Crescent, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week where the court heard how police officers were on patrol in Dalry at 2.30am when they were made aware of banging coming from the Lidl store in Kilwinning Road.

The police attended and found bottles of alcohol and items of clothing on a grass area near to the store before contacting the duty manager who confirmed that entry had been forced and that bottles found were from their store and that other bottles were missing.

Investigations took place and DNA was found that produced a positive match.

The total value of goods stolen was £4095.95 with a small recovery of £85 from the items found on the grass area.

Sheriff Alistair Watson said: “I clearly need to consider whether to send you to custody or not. Be back here at 10am on the date you’re about to be given regardless of any fears you may have.” Sentence was deferred for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and Restriction of Liberty assessment.

Grant will be sentenced on May 19.
