POLICE are appealing for information after a Dalry bookies was robbed at gunpoint on New Year's Day.

Officers were called to Coral in New Street at around 5pm yesterday after reports that a man had entered the premises and threatened the 20-year-old female and 26-year-old male shop assistants with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money from them.

He escaped with a three figure sum of money without firing any shots.

The robber is described as approximately five feet eight inches tall, of medium build wearing a dark greenish brown Parka style jacket with a fur trimmed hood, dark coloured trousers, dark coloured footwear and a scarf covering his face.

Staff were uninjured during the incident but were left shaken.

Detective Sergeant John Deans of North Ayrshire CID said: “This type of incident is uncommon and although the staff members were shaken by the ordeal, thankfully no one was injured.” "We would like to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the male involved or who were in the New Street area of Dalry around this time and may have observed anything suspicious,” He added: “We have got additional patrols in place and we are providing crime prevention advice to bookmakers.” “If you have any information about who may be responsible please call us on the non emergency telephone number 101.” POLICE are appealing for information after a Dalry bookies was robbed at gunpoint on New Year's Day.
