A MAN was taken to hospital on Tuesday after he was trapped underneath a tractor in Kilbirnie.

Firefighters used air bags and a hydraulic winch to release the trapped man.

A request for assistance from ambulance control made around 1.45pm saw Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews sent to the incident in Kilbirnie’s Largs Road.

The firefighters arrived to find the casualty trapped by the leg.

He was already being cared for by ambulance personnel and, using a hydraulic winch and air bags, the SFRS crews stabilised the tractor before lifting it to release him.

Firefighters assisted paramedics who continued to provide treatment to the casualty before moving him to an ambulance.

He was then taken to Crosshouse Hospital.
