Evan McKinnon from Dalry successfully tackled Goatfell last week with dad Scott and older brother Oliver to raise funds for juvenile diabetes research.

Eight-year-old Evan was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in October of last year.

Mum Kirsty said: "Evan did his Goatfell climb on Wednesday with no problems at all.

"He is absolutely delighted that he managed it and his diabetes was not affected.

"To say we are proud is an understatement!

"Evan is amazed to have raised £410 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund - that's four times his original target of £100.

"We are so thankful to everyone that sponsored Evan - friends, family and even people we do not know gave their hard earned cash.

"Thanks to the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald also for the lovely piece you did on Evans climb too."

Commenting on the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald Facebook page, Kirsty added: "Scott and I are so proud of Evan.

"He never lets his diabetes get in his way.

"In his own words, 'it's no big deal'."

Well done Evan!
