POLICE are urging motorists to be vigilant following two recent van thefts in Kilwinning and Irvine

Two vans were stolen on Thursday, April 7 after the vehicle keys were left in the ignition.

The first incident took place between 9am and 10am during which a Ford Transit pick-up was stolen in Irvine’s Bank Street.

At around 11am the same day, a white Ford Transit van parked in Dalry Road, Kilwinning, was also stolen.

Both vehicles, however, were eventually found by police.

Officers have issued a reminder to vehicle owners to remove the keys from the ignition and ensure it is locked.

A police spokesperson said: “Both these vehicles have now been recovered but these incidents should act as a reminder to all vehicle owners of the need to ensure the security of their vehicle.

“Drivers need to keep their vehicle keys safe at all times and to ensure their vehicle is secure - even if only leaving it for a short time - keys should never be left in the ignition when the vehicle is unattended.”
