THERE will be an information session this week to help people suffering with lung disease.

As part of Breathe Easy Week (13-19 June), members of the British Lung Foundation’s (BLF) support group, Breathe Easy North Ayrshire, are holding an information session, to raise awareness of how to live with lung disease.

The event will take place at Tesco stores in Kilwinning on Thursday, June 16 from 10.30am-12pm).

Throughout the week, BLF Breathe Easy support groups across Scotland will be showcasing the range of activities they do. Many run sponsored walks, concerts, coffee mornings, exercise classes and awareness stands.

Breathe Easy groups provide free support and advice for anybody affected by a lung condition – from lung cancer and COPD to rarer conditions such as pulmonary fibrosis and mesothelioma. Many also arrange talks from guest speakers, and campaign on local and national issues relating to lung health.

Gerry Crawford, from Breathe Easy North Ayrshire, said: “Our Breathe Easy group is here for anyone in the area living with a lung disease, their friends, family members or carers. Everyone is welcome to come and share advice, support, friendship and experiences with others who are in a similar position.”

Mike McKevitt, Head of Patient Services at the British Lung Foundation, said: “Breathe Easy Week shines a spotlight on support for people living with a lung condition. Breathe Easy groups represent an invaluable pillar of support to local people affected by lung disease. They offer compassion and understanding, as well as advice, encouragement and friendship.”

Breathe Easy North Ayrshire meets in Ardeer Neighbourhood Centre, Stevenston on the last Wednesday of the month at 1pm. For further information about the group and how to join, email gerrycrawford@talktalk.net or phone 01294 465 684.
