A KILWINNING councillor has welcomed the construction of a new path between Kilwinning Academy and Ayrshire College.

Joe Cullinane says the new path will develop further links between the Dalry Road school and the college in Lauchlan Way.

This will reinstate a traditional route taken by Kilwinning Academy pupils which was lost when the college was built.

Councillor Cullinane made the proposal for the path having discussed concerns about the number of pupils travelling down Dalry Road with the Kilwinning Academy Parent Council.

North Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire College worked together to deliver the project.

Speaking after its construction, Councillor Cullinane said: “This new path is a welcome addition to the school and will hopefully provide an alternative safe walking route for many pupils in the town.

“There had been concerns raised with me that Dalry Road was the route being used by the majority of pupils and it was becoming overcrowded.

“Before the college was built pupils were able to access Kilwinning Academy from that site and the new path reinstates this traditional route. It will hopefully help improve safety.

“Creating a path between the school and the college will help develop further links between the two which will hopefully benefit pupils and college students in the future.”
