A MAN is still seriously injured in hospital after a hit and run crash in Kilwinning at the weekend.

Police are appealing for information following the incident at Abbot Adams Bridge, Main Street on Sunday, July 24.

The 51-year-old suffered serious injuries after being struck by a blue Vauxhall Corsa at around 12.30am. The injured man was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital where he is still receiving treatment. Staff at the hospital have described his condition as serious but stable.

The blue Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop at the scene of the collision and continued south along Bridgend towards Irvine.

Sergeant Ian Thornton of the Divisional Road Policing Unit for Ayrshire, is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

He said: “Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision.

“Officers have been checking all available CCTV systems and have been speaking to witnesses who came to the man’s aid. I would appeal to the driver of the Corsa to come forward and contact police as a matter of urgency.

“Similarly, I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or the Vauxhall Corsa being driven, to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irvine via the police non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

There had been no arrests as the Herald went to press.
