AN investigation has been launched after a fire in Kilwinning this week.

Scottish Fire & Rescue crews raced to Monkcastle House in Dalry Road on Monday, September 19 after a blaze throughout the building. No-one was injured during the incident.

The first of several calls reporting the blaze was made just after 8am.

It was soon established that a fire began in the basement and spread towards the upper floors of the building.

A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service said investigation officers are now trying to determine how the blaze started.

They said: “We sent two fire engines in response to the first of several calls received shortly after 8am.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high pressure jet to extinguish a fire within the basement of the building while other teams searched the upper floors. No-one was hurt in this incident.

“Two additional crews were sent to assist as firefighters worked to confirm the fire was fully out and conducted salvage operations.

“Fire investigation officers have also attended and will work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.”
