A KILWINNING mum Lindsay Edison has started her own non-profit organisation called Bridie’s Babes to help children, young people and families who do not have the basics for everyday life.

By working alongside organisations that provide direct access to those in need, Lindsay Edison hopes Bridie’s Babes can provide clothing, toiletries, baby food, toys, books etc collected through donation drive appeals and fundraising.

Their main promise to those who donate, and those they distribute to, is that all goods come from Bridie’s Babes to the person in need for absolutely no cost.

Lindsay said: “I had read the story of the Glasgow baby bank and being a new mum myself it really impacted me that in this day and age such a thing exists.

“I researched and there wasn’t a similar central service in Ayrshire so I thought I’d do something about this.

“I made an appeal asking people to put an item of clothing, toiletries or toys in a box each day in December instead of an advent calendar with the view of distributing everything to local charities.

“However, I was overwhelmed with the response and decided that these organisations needed support throughout the year.

“Bridie’s Babes was named after my daughter’s nana. Bridie lived in Largs for many years, teaching French throughout Ayrshire and Inverclyde and always cared passionately about children and giving them the best start in life, so the name seemed appropriate.

Lindsay’s role is to collect donated goods from the community, and meet with third party organisations to build relationships and to distribute goods to families.

Lindsay also fundraises to keep the organisation flourishing and is in the process of registering Bridie’s Babes to become a charity, with the help of four newly assigned board members. In the short time that Bridie’s Babes has been running it has already benefited many different families across North Ayrshire.
