THERE were long tailbacks between Irvine and Kilwinning this week after two horses got loose on the A78.
The two Clydesdale horses caused heavy delays to motorists approaching the Pennyburn roundabout from Irvine on Monday morning. However both were encouraged off the busy road and now safe and well after police were called to the scene.
A spokesman at Irvine police station said: “We can confirm that police were contacted at around 8.20am regarding a report of two horses on the A78 near the Pennyburn roundabout.
“Police attended to ensure the safe removal of the horses from the carriageway to prevent any incident involving vehicles. This successfully took place at around 8.45am and traffic returned to normal after.”
