A KILWINNING woman has admitted to taking heroin into Kilmarnock Prison.

Casey Harkison, 35, of Bridgend, appeared at Kimarnock Sheriff Court last week and pled guilty to an alternative charge under the Prisons (Scotland) Act 1989.

On June 6 at HMP Kilmarnock, Harkison did, without reasonable excuse, bring heroin into the prison.

Defending Harkison, solicitor Mr Fleming, said: “She only saw me on Tuesday of this week so I’ve not had an awful lot of time to gather paperwork together, which includes the provision for psychiatric treatment.

“I was going to ask the court to defer sentence so that I could obtain some kind of medical report. There’s actually a slight complication – my friend will see a figure of the weight of the diamorphine which she disputes.

“The summary states it was 24.4 grams. The accused says 2.04 grams.”

Sheriff Craig Harris said: “I will allow a period of time for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and a Restriction of Liberty Assessment.

“Miss Harkison, I’m going to release you on bail today. That is to obtain additional information on you.”

Harkison will return to the court at a later date for sentencing.
