A local history group is set for another investigation into the past.

Kilwinning Heritage in partnership with Rathmell Archaeology are planning to rediscover the site of Lady Jane’s cottage located in Eglinton Country Park.

The cottage was built in the 18th century by the 12th Earl of Eglinton, and was used by his daughter, Lady Jane Montgomerie as an escape to the country.

It was a “chocolate box” cottage with a thatched roof and lattice windows. The building fell into disrepair in the early 1900s, and was demolished in the 1950s.

Kilwinning Heritage chairman, Andy Baird, said: “Although there are no visible remains, we have already carried out a project to discover the exact location.

“We hope that this new investigation will uncover more of the cottage and its story while at the same time allowing local amateur archaeologists to learn new skills and techniques when they join the professionals in a Time Team type of exercise.”

The project will run from July 31 until August 4 with the group also looking for volunteers to join the team of history detectives.
