THE organiser of a motorcycle gathering held earlier this month has praised the staff of CalMac for their understanding and work.

We reported previously that Colin Mackie from Kilwinning was busy organising the ‘Return to the Island’ event which would see around 300 bikers descend on the Isle of Bute.

But the biker had fears that it wasn’t going to be logistically possible with the amount of bikes that CalMac were going to allow on at any one time and the way in which they were to be lashed down.

The event took place from August 4-6 and Colin wanted to pass on his thanks on behalf of everyone to the company.

He told the Herald: “CalMac had six members of staff on the pier to help and there was no restrictions on the bikes and they used carpet when lashing the bikes so there was no damage done.

“They were really polite, helpful and there was no trouble and no-one got left behind. I have written to CalMac singing their high praises.

“It seems that after negotiations, CalMac performed perfectly and we look forward to doing the same again next year.”

A CalMac spokesman said:”We recognise the value of bringing people to the islands and rural communities we support and were pleased to be able to help the bikers event in Bute.”
