IRVINE Bay Gymnastics Club, the second largest club in Scotland, is jumping for joy thanks to the generosity of James Frew Ltd.

The company has donated £200 to help six young gymnasts achieve their dreams of representing team GB at the European Championships in Portugal at the end of next year.

The success the club has achieved over the years has caught the eye of GB selectors who invited the junior and senior gymnasts to a skills testing camp.

The gymnasts, Lori Burns, 19, Nicole Guthrie,17, Jack Gibson,16, Sasha Akavicis, 15 – all from Irvine and Alice Boucher, 15, from Kilwinning successfully completed a 2-day camp in Bracknell with GB coaches and has now moved on to the next stage.

Although already training 6 days a week, the gymnasts will now attend additional GB zonal training camps every month to train with GB coaches and increase skill levels and learn new techniques all over the UK in preparation of final selection in April 2018.

Irvine Bay GC, the second largest club in Scotland, is a volunteer led charity, and the hard-working, talented gymnasts are entirely self-funded and so rely heavily on local sponsorship.

Danny Gibson, Commercial Manager at James Frew Ltd and uncle to Jack Gibson, one of the six members of the team, presented the cheque.

He said: "It was fantastic to see at first hand the high level of skill these young athletes have. James Frew is proud to support such a good cause and wish the team the best of luck in their future endeavours.”

Amanda Boucher, Irvine Bay Gymnastics Club, Head Couch added: “We were delighted to be able to offer the selected gymnasts at Irvine Bay the opportunity to pursue their ambition of GB selection. The support of James Frew Ltd is so very much appreciated. It is so encouraging to the gymnasts that their level of commitmentand their desire to represent their country is supported.”
