COUNCIL house residents are being alerted to bogus gas inspectors trying to gain access to properties across in Kilwinning and Irvine.
Fraudsters have been demanding on the spot cash payments.
A spokesperson from North Ayrshire Council said: “It has come to our attention that some of our council tenants have been visited by bogus callers claiming to be carrying out inspections on new gas installations on behalf of North Ayrshire Council. These callers then asked for payment of an on-thespot cash fee.
“North Ayrshire Council, McTear Contracts Ltd (who carry out gas installations on behalf of NAC) or Saltire (who carry out gas maintenance on behalf of NAC) will not ask tenants to pay an on-the-spot cash fee. Please be vigilant and always ask to see, and inspect, the operative’s ID.”
If you have concerns, call NAC on 01294 310000.
