Author Angela Proctor flew into two local primary schools last week to chat to children about her Extraordinary Little Witch, Thumble Tumble and her ongoing spooky adventures on the magical Isle of Arran.

She called into St Luke's in Kilwinning and Castlepark in Irvine as part of the World Book Day celebrations.

During the visits, the children were tasked with creating their own ‘magic potion’, as well as taking part in an experiment to find out if Spike Backed Giants have taste buds.

Angela was blown away with the creativity displayed by the talented youngsters and their ingenious potion ingredients – including a pinch of poison dart-frog.

Angela was also delighted to hear that the children at St Luke's had been raising funds for The Beatson Cancer Charity, which is Angela’s partner charity and for which her enchanting fairy tales have now raised over £20,000.

“It was a perfect ending to my ‘Marchathon’ Reading Challenge” said Angela, who visited 15 schools during March.

“I always receive a very warm welcome at St Luke’s Primary and really enjoy hearing the children’s stories and answering their questions.”

Angela was bowled over by the Shrinking Potion ingredients put together by the Castlepark pupils, which even included a mermaid’s sponge and boiling water from the deep loch.

Angela said: “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to interact with school children as their imaginations are quite simply brilliant.”
