A BID has been launched to get a memorial for a late Kilwinning campaigner in Cuba.

Brian Brown, who died in 2016, was a staunch supporter of many progressive campaigns and good causes.

Fellow campaigner Arthur West said: “One of the organisations he supported was the Music Fund for Cuba which is a UK Charity supporting music, arts and culture in Cuba.

“The work of the charity is much appreciated by people in Cuba as the country is still the subject of an economic blockade by the United States and the type of equipment provided by the charity is very helpful in schools and other settings.”

As a way of raising money for the charity, seats are being offered in the Miramar Theatre in Havana for a £150 donation.

These seats will have plaques with people’s names on them and the Ayrshire Cuba Solidarity Campaign thought it would be a good idea to try and raise enough money to get a seat with Brian’s name on it.

A fundraising event will be held at noon on Saturday April 21 in the Labour Party Cottages, Townhead.

Arthur added: “We will show a short film about Cuba’s humanitarian role in the world and probably have a song or two and share some memories of Brian.”
