A KILWINNING couple are this week celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary after getting hitched way back in 1949.

Ruth and Andrew Scoular were married in the town’s St Winning’s Church on April 29.

The couple originally came from Kilmarnock but have spent the majority of their life living in the North Ayrshire town. Andrew, who is 88, worked for Glenfield and Kennedy and Ruth worked as a nurse at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine.

The couple have six children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family celebrated the magnificent anniversary by sitting down to a lovely meal in Motherland Spice in Saltcoats and the couple’s daughter Jan said that everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

Jan also said that the secret to their long marriage is because they both work hard and her dad keeps his mouth shut.
