KILWINNING ultra-athlete Michael Kirkum is hoping to prove he’s the Daddy when he takes on a gruelling ultramarathon in July.

Michael will be competing alongside his son Michael Jnr and his daughter Janette in the Race To The Stones Ultramarathon – a 100km race along the Ridgeway long distance footpath finishing at the ancient Avebury Stone Circle in Wiltshire.

Michael is treating the race as a training run for his main event of the year – the 169 mile Grand To Grand Ultra around the Grand Canyon in America in September raising money for Help The Heroes.

The extreme athlete has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years and the Race To The Stones will raise funds for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital.

Michael has also recently been selected as a baton bearer for the Queen’s Baton Relay when it passes through Kilwinning.

The trio have received tremendous support from the local community and businesses with donations continuing to flood in.
