A KILWINNING Riding for Disabled group has had a boost from Saltcoats branch of Santander Bank.
The Winton RDA were presented with a cheque for £5,000 from the bank’s Santander Foundation last week by branch manager Lesley Smith .
The foundation is a community grant that can be applied for to assist local charities that help disadvantaged people.
Lesley said: “I applied for the grant for Winton RDA as I am passionate about riding for the disabled and was delighted to hear the maximum of £5,000 had been awarded to help with equipment for their riders.” The Winton group based is at Fergushill Riding Stables in Kilwinning and helps local youngsters from all around North Ayrshire communicate with horses and learn to ride in a safe environment.
They encourage the members to compete and have fun while gaining experiences with the equine friends they make.
Recently, visually impaired riders have joined the group who require additional equipment which the grant will help provide.
The group is welcoming new members especially people with visual impairment.
