A HAPLESS drug user has appeared in court after being caught with drugs after he phoned an ambulance claiming he had taken too much cocaine.

Gary Gunion, 27, of Blacklands Crescent in Kilwinning, phoned 999 on July 25 of this year saying that he had overdosed on cocaine.

Paramedics arrived and couldn’t gain entry into his house so they contacted police.

The officers who attended managed to get Gunion to answer the door and when he came to the door, he had white powder on his face.

Gunion said to the officers: “I’m OD’ing on coke”. The court heard how he had used two grams of cocaine that day.

Police officers then found a small bag containing more cocaine and Gunion was cautioned to which he replied: “It’s not mine.

"Somebody else put it there.

"I’ve taken all my coke.” The bag that was found turned out to be 1.2g of cocaine with a value of £50.

Mr Murray, defending, said that his client had a difficult start to the year when a long term relationship broke down and he had no contact with his son.

He said that Gunion had been drinking heavily and this graduated to the misuse of this substance.

He added that there was no deliberate action – he had taken the drugs simply for self-indulgence.

Sheriff Foran decided to defer sentence for Gunion to be of good behaviour, adding: “I will defer this for about three months for you to be of good behaviour, that will take us past Christmas and the New Year period.” Gunion will find out his fate on January 16
