A KILWINNING man who breached his community payback order has been jailed.

Samuel McGovern, of Stobbs Terrace, admitted breaching the order which was imposed on January 14 this year.

The 23-year-old was ordered to carry out unpaid work after exposing himself in Kilwinning Main Street on May 7, 2013.

He flashed his privates and performed a sex act in the street during the incident.

However, McGovern is currently serving a prison sentence at HMP Bowhouse after being jailed for 30 months in August for a separate offence..

His lawyer, Paul Gallacher, told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week how his sentence was the cause for the non-completiton of the order but revealed that McGovern had completed several hours of work.

He added how McGovern suffers from a substantial alcohol problem and is the cause for his offending.

Mr Gallacher also revealed that McGovern had met with counsellors in an attempt to curb his drinking.

Presiding Sheriff Iona McDonald said: β€œAt the time Mr McGovern it was either jail or a Community Payback Order.

β€œI see that the only appropriate measure to take is a custodial sentence.” He was sentenced to five months in prison consecutive to his current sentence.
