POLICE have appealed for information after a blaze at a Kilwinning car wash was confirmed as 'wilful fire raising'.

Firefighters at Kilwinning Fire Station made the short journey across Stevenston Road to tackle a blaze at the former KML car wash on Monday, January 12.

Crews received a 999 call shortly after 5am and the Kilwinning team were soon joined by two appliances from Ardrossan Fire Station minutes later.

Six officers wearing breathing apparatus bravely entered the building and managed to successfully extinguish the blaze.

Watch Manager Colin McGhee, the incident commander, said: “The layout of the building posed a challenge for the teams but they made steady progress and successfully extinguished the main seat of fire before continuing dampening down operations.

A thermal imaging camera was used as crews searched for any signs of hidden fire spread.” On Tuesday morning, police confirmed they were treating the blaze at 'wilful fire raising'.
