THE mum of a teenager who spent 10 days in hospital after a brutal attack has hit back after his brother was sentenced to unpaid work for sending threats to the culprit.

Lee McBlain was ordered to carry out unpaid work at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last month for sending threatening messages on Facebook to the teenager who attacked his brother Jamie.

The teen served a prison sentence after admitting the attempted murder of Jamie back in 2011.

It was mentioned briefly in court when Lee appeared but the Procurator Fiscal only confirmed that the teenager had recently been released from a sentence. Julie McBlain, who is a nurse at Crosshouse Hospital, revealed Jamie suffered injuries to his liver, lungs, a kidney and his intestines.  Jamie was 12 at the time of the attack and couldn’t be named. But now the 5th year student is 16, his mum wanted to highlight his ordeal.  She said she is completely against what Lee did, and revealed Jamie was also annoyed at him.

But Julie believes that the background to the case needs to be addressed.  She said: “Jamie was in hospital for 10 days in intensive care and then the high care unit at Crosshouse.

“I was told he wasn’t going to make it and you hear about these things but you never think it will happen to you.

“When Jamie was in resus, he said ‘I’m only 12, I’m too young to die’ and the nurse who was with me was crying.

“I don’t know what goes into someone’s head to do something like that.

“Things were posted on Facebook and Lee saw them and reacted in the way he did. It was three rants over the time period.”  The teenager who attacked Jamie was sentenced to four years in prison with a three-year extension period back in 2011.

He was released in June of 2013 with a tag which was removed that November.  Lee appeared at court last month and admitted the charge against him.  But Julie added: “I can’t believe that he took it to court after everything that happened.

"He never apologised and him and his dad were laughing at me when I left the court because they thought Lee had been given a custodial sentence.” Julie and her family moved away from Kilwinning after the attack.

They now live in Irvine.

She said: “We had bad memories of the house and Jamie was suffering from nightmares, so we all thought it would be best to get a fresh start.”
