A KILWINNING man has denied charges of careless driving and assaulting a police officer.

Colin Oreilly, of Stobbs Terrace, allegedly committed the offences on October 19 last year.

The 25-year-old is firstly accused of driving without due care and attention on the B7081 Crosshouse to Springside road, near Thorntoun Care Home, Crosshouse.

Oreilly allegedly failed to maintain adequate control of the car, causing it to leave the carriageway and collide with a sign post.

While within a moving police vehicle, Oreilly allegedly headbutted a police officer.

Oreilly is also charged with failing to provide information to police and failing to co-operate with a preliminary breath test before failing to provide two breath specimens at Kilmarnock Police Office.

In addition, Oreilly denies conducting himself in a disorderly manner by shouting, swearing, uttering homophobic remarks and committing a breach of the peace.

Oreilly appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pled not guilty.

He will stand trial in May.
