FIRE crews rushed to Kilwinning last Thursday evening after a digger went up in flames in a farm outbuilding.
Crews from Kilwinning and Dreghorn fire stations arrived at Laigh Patterton Farm just after 6pm.
Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “The crews were met with a serious fire involving plant machinery which was contained within a farm outbuilding.
“Due to the positioning of the machinery involved the fire was quite intense and challenging to tackle.” “Due to restricted water supplies in the area, Incident Commander Alex Dickinson instructed that a pump act as a water carrier to ferry water from a hydrant in the area to the scene of operations.
"This allowed the teams to tackle and extinguish the blaze successfully using two high pressure hose reel jets.” He added “Unfortunately, as is common in farm buildings, there was asbestos confirmed in the roof of the building where the fire was which instigated our full asbestos procedures.” The last fire appliance left the incident at 10.42pm.
