Police are seeking two men who made off with a five-figure sum of money after robbing a security guard outside a bank in Glasgow.

The 57-year-old was at the Clydesdale Bank in Shettleston Road when he was approached by the men at around 6:20pm on Sunday.

They threatened him with a weapon and robbed him of a money cassette containing the cash before making off in a blue Ford Focus.

The guard was taken to Glasgow Royal Infimary with an injury to his hand, before being released.

Although not seriously injured, he is said to have been left badly shaken.

Officers believe that a car which was set on fire at the rear of flats in Budhill Avenue shortly after the incident is the vehicle involved in the robbery.

One of the suspects that detectives are searching for is around 6 feet tall, of a stocky build and was wearing a dark green jacket.

The other man is described as around 5 feet 8 of medium build and wearing dark coloured clothing.

Detective Inspector Clark Hill said: “This violent robbery has left the victim extremely distressed.  It is totally unacceptable that someone is targeted whilst simply trying to do their job and the men responsible quite clearly had no regard for the victim.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this cash in transit robbery and are appealing to the public for any information that will help us trace the men responsible for this robbery as soon as possible.

“I would urge any witnesses to the robbery itself, or anyone with information on car set on fire at Budhill Avenue to come forward to police.  This vehicle is currently undergoing forensic examination.”

Detective Inspector Hill said that Police are not currently linking the robbery to a similar incident which took place outside the Royal Bank of Scotland on Duke Street on Friday afternoon, although indicated they would not rule out the possibility.
