AN animal welfare group is calling on people in the Three Towns to boycott a circus that uses an elephant with arthritis.

Bobby Roberts Super Circus has been performing in Scotland for the last eight weeks and will continue its tour at Stevenston Beach Park from July 21.

The elephant, Anne, is now 56 years old and is believed to be the last touring elephant in Britain.

Animal welfare group Advocates for Animals and local residents have been following Anne"s story for many years and believe that at 56 she should be allowed to roam free.
