A DEVASTING blow completely out of the blue - that's the verdict of Ardrossan-based Care Partners on the news that they are to lose 90 per cent of their funding in the massive cuts announced by North Ayrshire Council.

"We were shocked to find out six weeks before the new financial year that the £207,000 we receive from NAC's Children & Families budget is being withdrawn," project director Julie Gibb said.

Care Partners have been a valued service provider in North Ayrshire for 16 years, supplying a befriending and groupwork service to children and adults with disabilities.

One man who uses the service and contacted the Herald said: "Shame on the council."
