Celebrating 50 years together
A STEVENSTON golden couple are celebrating 50 years together by jetting off to sunny Spain with the family.
Locals Tommy and Jean (nee Rainey) Wilson are celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary on August, 5. Married in 1960 in Stevenston's Ardeer Parish Church by family friend, Rev. William Weir, Tommy (74) and Jean (69) first met in the 1950's at a dance in the Castlecraigs lounge, in what is now the Ardrossan Civic Centre.
With Ardrossan man, Tommy - a former baker with Wonderloaf bakers in Stevenston - in the central canteen and Jean in the detonator lab, the happy couple both spent their working days as two of some tens of thousands of staff members in the explosives factory at ICI, Stevenston before retiring - Jean in 1991 and Tommy in 1990.
Asked what their secret to five decades together is, Jean replied: "Tommy's the kind of person who takes a day at a time, whereas I just worry all the time, so we manage to balance each other out I suppose!"
