Best result in 91-year history
Emirates Scottish Junior Cup Quarter-Final DALRY THISTLE 3 KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY 1
SCENES of absolute europhia engulfed Merskworth as underdogs Dalry Thistle pulled off the biggest result in their 91-year history on Saturday.
Against-all-the-odds, Darren Henderson's Emirates Scottish Junior Cup outsiders, quoted at 16/1 to lift the trophy going into the match, made another giant-killing by toppling a Rob Roy side who are two leagues above them to storm into the semi-finals of the elite competition for the first time since their formation in 1920.
This is the kind of day which will live long in Junior folklore as a team who were rated as only 7/2 shots just before kick-off, triumphed against a heavily favoured visiting side, who had gone into the game at 8/13 to become the first team since Irvine Meadow in 2006 to reach the elite last four stage of Junior Football's holy grail.
Goals from Richard Hay, James Canning and birthday boy Kris Gilhooley, who turned 25 on the day, helped Darren Henderson's men march into the highly lucrative stages of the competition with a two-legged semi-final next month to look forward to.
