A STEVENSTON man told the Herald this week how he suffered damage to his vehicle while travelling on a Saltcoats road which he has deemed a death trap.

James Callaghan (50) - who carries out maintenance work on private rented accommodation - was driving his van along Canal Street last week when a lorry passing him in the other direction was forced onto his side of the road and battered his wing mirror off, leaving him with a £200 repair bill. The road at Canal Street has recently been narrowed, at the request of North Ayrshire Council, by a construction firm building a new Cunnighame Housing Association development.
