AYRSHIRE Power's (AP) say their proposals to build a new coal-fired power station at Hunterston took a step forward this week after their bid for European funding for the project passed the first stage of the application process.

In February, AP - through its sister company Peel Energy Carbon Capture and Storage Ltd (PECCS) - applied for funding for the vital carbon capture aspects of their proposed power station under the European Union's NER 300 demonstration carbon capture and storage (CCS) funding competition. Following an initial assessment, the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) confirmed that the bid meets the necessary eligibility criteria and have now submitted it to the European Commission for detailed consideration by the European Investment Bank.
