A KILBIRNIE couple were left distraught recently after five of their beloved horses were let out of their field in the middle of the night onto a main road where one was run over and two were left seriously injured.

Panic set in for Gael Coia and Billy McKechnie at 2am on Saturday, June 11 when they received a call from the police saying that their horses had been found out on a busy road and that one of them had been struck by an oncoming motorist. Gael told the Herald this week that, having heard of similar incidents locally, she was convinced that someone had deliberately let the horses out of the safety of the field in an attempt to either steal or harm them.
