THE Cabinet Secretary for Justice Kenny MacAskill visited North Ayrshire this week to see the results of a project which aims to regenerate communities and ensure offenders repay their debt to society.

Ardrossan Bowling Club benefits from unpaid work undertaken by offenders on Community Payback Orders and on Monday, January 16, Mr MacAskill witnessed how the project participants laid down a new floor, upgraded lighting and installed lockers, which will allow the club to be used for other recreational activities.

"I am determined that our justice system provides tough punishment for low-level offenders, making them repay their debt to society whilst improving conditions and facilities for communities," Mr MacAskill said.
