MORE than one in three children in Saltcoats and Stevenston are living in poverty according to figures published last week by the Campaign to End Child Poverty.

Additionally, almost a quarter of all children in North Ayrshire and Arran are reported to be living on the bread line and nearly half of Scottish local authorities now have wards where more than 30 per cent of children live in poverty.

The campaign group published the first ever map of Scotland showing the rates of child poverty across every ward, council and constituency. Saltcoats and Stevenston were higher than average with 35 per cent of children shown to be living with financial hardship.
