TRAINS between the coast and Glasgow and Ayr were subject to delays at Stevenston station on Tuesday following an incident in which a lorry apparently struck equipment on the level crossing.

One onlooker said: "At one point it looked as though it was on fire. At first we thought it had hit the overhead electrical cables.

"Yet again level crossing has been the scene of an accident. It's very worrying."
